March 28, 2007

Calgary... As many as 8,400 Korean travellers will be visiting Alberta this summer as part of a new charter program negotiated by Travel Alberta and the Calgary Airport Authority.

Korean Air will fly Boeing 777-200 aircraft three times a week, July 1 until September 2, between Seoul and Calgary. Each flight will carry up to 301 passengers.

“Alberta shares its world-class attractions and western hospitality with well over a million international visitors each year,” said Hector Goudreau, Minister of Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture. “We look forward to providing our Korean guests with a truly memorable experience in our province.”

Itineraries are still under development but all tours will include the Columbia Icefield Glacier Experience in Jasper National Park as the anchor attraction. Destinations included on the six to nine-day charter schedules include Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise, Jasper, Drumheller, Red Deer, Fort Macleod and Waterton.

“We are very confident that the diversity of Alberta’s tourism attractions will be popular with Koreans this summer,” said Bo Young (Arnold) Song, general manager of Korean Air’s Americas Network Team in Seoul.

The charter program will be sold by Korean tour operators Hana Tours, Mode Tours, Freedom Tours and Lotte Tours.

“We are thrilled that after two years of persistent relationship-building in Korea and with the facilitation of the Calgary Airport Authority, that we have been able to generate such a significant charter program,” said Derek Coke-Kerr, managing director of Travel Alberta. “We are especially pleased that we will showcase so much of rural Alberta for our guests this summer,” he added.

In 2005, more than 37,000 Koreans spent more than $32 million visiting Alberta.

Strengthening our tourism industry supports Premier Ed Stelmach's plan to build a stronger Alberta. Other priorities for the government are to: govern with transparency and integrity, manage growth pressures, improve Albertans' quality of life and provide safe and secure communities.

Calgary, March 8, 2007, 3:00 p.m.

The Calgary International Airport today became the first airport in Canada to be recognized for its environmental best practices by BOMA Canada. In receiving this Go Green® Certification, the operations team of the Calgary Airport Authority, displayed its leadership in the realm of the indoor environment.

This is a significant achievement for a facility which processes millions of passengers annually at one of the country’s major airports. In being awarded this national recognition, the airport authority’s operations staff was required to demonstrate its performance against a national industry environmental standard to an independent verifier. To be certified Go Green® a building must demonstrate that it meets or exceeds all of the best practices standards in all of the key areas. Among the key criteria considered are:

♦ Resource Consumption, including electricity, gas, and water
♦ Waste reduction and recycling, in particular construction waste reduction
♦ Building materials, specifically hazardous materials, materials selection, and ozone depleting substances
♦ Indoor Environment, indoor air quality (IAQ) and HVAC maintenance
♦ Tenant communication program

BOMA Go Green® is a national program developed by BOMA Canada. Go Green® is a voluntary program designed for existing or occupied buildings. The purpose of Go Green® is to demonstrate to all building owners how to build an environmental management system, and to recognize those owners who have successfully implemented these programs in the operation of their properties.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 22, 2007

Calgary, Alberta – The Calgary Airport Authority announced today that effective June 1, 2007, the Airport Improvement Fee (AIF) will increase by five dollars for each originating and departing, non-connecting, passenger at Calgary International Airport.

The ‘Alberta short-sector’ AIF, applicable to flights destined to Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Lloydminster, will increase from the current $10 to $15. The AIF for all other flights will increase from $15 to $20.

Passenger volumes at Calgary have increased 43 percent in the past four years with an increase of 11 percent, or one million additional passengers, in 2006. Additionally, Calgary’s unprecedented building boom, and its impact on construction costs, has also greatly impacted funding requirements for current and pending facility expansion projects.

The Calgary Airport Authority has invested $805M in capital projects since assuming responsibility for Calgary International Airport in 1992, with $600M funded from the Airport Improvement Fee. In addition, the Authority has paid $274M to the Government of Canada in lease payments or ‘airport rent tax’ as it is known in Canada’s aviation industry. The Authority expects to pay a total of $2.9 billion in Rent Tax over the 60-year term of the current ground lease.

“Our corporation is committed to meeting the needs of travellers, shippers and other users of Calgary International Airport, as well as prudently managing our debt burden in this continuing environment of high growth and high construction costs,” stated Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of the Authority. “The five dollar increase to our AIF will help position the Authority to meet its fundamental role of keeping Calgarians connected to the world.”

The Calgary Airport Authority is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation incorporated under Provincial legislation responsible for the operation, development and management of Calgary International Airport and Springbank Airport under long-term lease from the Government of Canada.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 31, 2007

Calgary International Airport - Record Level Passenger Volumes
Over 11 million passengers in 2006

Calgary, AB. – Passenger volumes at Calgary International Airport reached an all-time high with Canada’s fourth busiest airport surpassing 11 million annual passengers in 2006.

Statistics reported by the airlines reflect growth in all sectors for a total of 11.27 million passengers, equating to an increase of 11 percent, or over one million more passengers than 2005.

“Exceeding 11 million annual passengers reflects yet another year of double digit growth. Calgary’s passenger growth over the past four years is 43 percent – Canada’s fastest growing airport in Canada’s fastest growing major city,” commented Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “Calgary is recognized by airlines as a great opportunity for new air services or increased capacity on existing routes.”

Air service development highlights in 2006 include British Airways returning to Calgary and Frontier Airlines selecting Calgary as the first Canadian destination for a U.S. low-cost carrier. Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz also added new non-stop services from Calgary to New York City, Palm Springs. Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Comox and Yellowknife. Calgary-based WestJet Airlines, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2006, continued its steady growth with the addition of non-stop daily service to Halifax and Las Vegas, an increase of its Toronto service to eight flights daily and Ft. McMurray to twice daily. Asian tourism growth to Calgary was also evident in two Japanese carriers, All Nippon and Japan Airlines, operating a series of summer charter flights from various Japanese cities.

“With growth well in excess of market projections, the Authority must continue to have the necessary infrastructure in place to facilitate Calgarians staying connected to the world,” added Atkinson. “With 12 years normal growth compressed into the past four years, facilities thought to be adequate for a least a few more years are now reaching their capacity.”

Since assuming responsibility for Calgary International Airport from the Government of Canada in 1992, The Calgary Airport Authority has invested over $800M in capital and expansion projects while paying $274M in federal airport rent tax to the Government of Canada.

The Calgary Airport Authority is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation, responsible for the management, maintenance and development of Calgary International Airport and Springbank Airport under long-term lease from the Government of Canada.
