Calgary Airport Authority Awarded Airport Council International World/North America Conference and Exhibition

Calgary, AB. – The Airport Council International (ACI) World and ACI North America (ACI-NA) announced The Calgary Airport Authority as the successful host airport of the ACI World/North America Conference in 2012.
This annual conference and exhibition hosts over 2,300 senior airport and aviation executives from 49 countries and will generate over $2.5 million in revenue for Calgary. This event provides the opportunity for executives from around the world to participate in airport focused education and planning sessions and a major industry tradeshow that showcases leading-edge aviation technologies, airport suppliers and consultants.
“As Alberta's premier international gateway, Calgary International Airport is the perfect host for these world-class conferences,” said Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “YYC is one of Canada's fastest growing airports, which offers Calgary and the province of Alberta the most extensive and direct connections to the world. We are ready and eager to welcome the world to our great city and airport in 2012.”
Tourism Calgary, the Stampede Roundup Centre and the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, important partners in the bid to host the 2012 ACI conferences, worked closely with the Authority's bid team to showcase our metropolitan city and our expertise in hosting local, national and global conferences and tradeshows. Calgary has been host to many of the world's largest airport conferences, which included the 2006 Air Cargo Forum, welcoming over 3,000 cargo executives from around the globe. Other ACI-NA conferences previously held in Calgary include the 2003 Airport Concessions Conference and the 2005 ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Conference.
“Calgary's continued success in securing international conferences and conventions demonstrate the city's ability to accommodate, facilitate and service the needs of corporate travellers,” said Aldon Wells, Interm Chief Operating Officer of Tourism Calgary. “Although the process of confirming events of this scale often take years of preparation – they offer the exceptional opportunity to highlight Calgary as a world-class destination.”
