The Smart Cars have 3-cylinder engines and average 5.3 litres of gasoline per 100 kilometres. The new efficient YYC vehicles will be able to drive the length of new 14,000 foot runway 148 times on one tank of gas, making them a smart choice as YYC continues to strive to be a leader in sustainability. “YYC is already experiencing a high level of construction activity with the Airport Development Program, and that activity level will only increase as we continue to develop our facilities to meet the needs of our growing economy. These new smart cars will play an important role in reducing gas consumption and our environmental footprint,” said Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “The Authority is always looking for new forward-thinking ways to improve efficiency and I believe that these new vehicles will be a great investment for our airport.” The Airport Development Program includes the construction of a new 14,000 ft runway and a new international concourse, adding 22-new gates at YYC and doubling the size of the existing terminal building.
